Pouillou-Fourneau

The history of this small village has proved to be very old. In 1891 traces of Roman occupation were discovered here and then, in the meadows above the hamlet, a small cemetery containing a dozen graves. Clinker and ore waste was also discovered which could date back to the mediaeval period. They could explain the origin of the hamlet's name. Mining of iron ore deposits was carried out for many centuries, but it was especially in the 19th century that it was carried out on an industrial scale.
