He is required to lodge a surety, which varies according to the number of inhabitants, guaranteeing that he will carry out his task properly.

Under his sole responsibility, he collects municipal income, makes regular payments and pays the expenses ordered by the college up to the amount specified for each budget item. He keeps the municipality's accounts in the legally prescribed form.
